Headaches

Pulsating pain. A dull ache. The sensation of a tight band being around your head.

As one of the most common pain conditions experienced in the United States (and worldwide), headaches can range from somewhat uncomfortable to extremely painful. At Back Pain Center, we help patients get natural relief from their discomfort.

Providing Through Evaluations

It’s important to do a complete history and exam to determine if someone’s a candidate for our care, or the type of headache they have is something we can treat.

While allergy-related headaches have a different treatment approach, we can treat myofascial ones, which are the majority of headaches. These types are cervicogenic, meaning they come from the neck.

We evaluate the spine and mechanics of the upper back, assess daily activities, and readjust postures at workspaces, or help patients change their work environment to put less stress and tension on their neck. We also evaluate the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), as clenching and poor jaw mechanics can be a driving force of headaches, especially TMJ-based ones.

How We Help

In addition to adjustments, we provide postural homework to correct poor workstation or job mechanics that can self-inflict headaches. We prescribe jaw exercises, stretches, and neck exercises to reduce stress and strain on the neck. Adjusting is just one piece of the pie. We also use dry needling and myofascial release techniques, and focus on strengthening the core, upper back, and stability to help patients sit upright easier.
